Swedish University of Agricultural Science

(SLU)

The Department of Energy and Technology at the Swedish University of Agricultural Science has long experience of system analyses of agricultural products such as bio fuels and food. Beside the system analyses where LCA is the most commonly used methods the department also has a strong profile in food logistics and safe nutrient recycling. The department has been involved in several projects related to sustainable food production, and especially projects focusing on food waste in supermarkets, food services and in the primary production. The only ongoing project related to food waste is the H2020-project UrBan Waste, where one of the focus areas is food waste reduction in tourist hotels.

SLU is involved in several of the tasks and will take the lead on WP 3 (Sustainability of food waste value chains)

SLU will share knowledge and expertise in identifying the best waste reduction methods (WP 1). SLU will lead the work in WP3 and work with LCA, LCC and S-LCA in order to asses a broader range of sustainability issues of waste reduction methods developed in other WPs. SLU will also participate in WP 4 to contribute to the identification of a overall framework for the most effective ways to reduce and handle food waste in the entire food supply chain.
