WP3 Sustainability assessment
The main aim of WP3 is to assess food waste management solutions recommended from WPs 1 and 2. This will be done using Life Cycle Assessment and similar methodologies to calculate the environmental but also the economic and social impact from different actions preventing or valorising the food waste.
WP1 Best practices for food waste prevention
The project includes case studies in the serving sector in the participating countries.
Sustainability assessment
To compare the whole range of environmental impacts of a product or measurement is the goal of a life cycle assessment (LCA). In work package 3 LCA, Life Cycle Costs (LCC) and Sustainability Life Cycle Analysis (SLCA) methods are used to study the overall sustainability. Within each food waste hierarchy level, the current practice will be compared with the proposed actions. The sustainability potentials of various alternatives studied in this project will be evaluated by comparing the potential reduction in food waste vis-à-vis their environmental impacts, cost implications, energy and resource demands, and social impacts. The included life cycle assessment gives an added value to the project since it is a holistic multidisciplinary approach which will deliver quantifiable results to guide processing and reuse of food waste.
